8 values of freedom

 

         The First Amendment is more than just freedom of speech. The First Amendment is one of ten amendments in the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment has played many roles in how the country runs as a unit. In the First Amendment, we talked about speech theories. These eight values are what make the freedom of speech so powerful that no one can take it away from you. Everyone has these rights, even if you are of a different race or sex.  The one that stood out to me the most was government power.  

     

Checking on the government is used in a system called checks and balances. With this, this system also creates 3 branches that make sure there isn't too much power. The Legislative branch makes the laws the executive interprets the laws and the judicial executes the laws. If the government has too much power then the country would be running in a mess and people would want to leave. It also protects us from the government making laws that take away our freedom of speech because it is also a part of our Bill of Rights. What's crazy is that journalists can watch the government to see that they aren't using too much power.

In conclusion, the government has limited power is needed. If not, then the country would be acting the wrong way, and it would turn like North Korea. Just follow the rules and remember that you have freedom.

                            The U.S Supreme Court

We have always had to take history classes in school. Recently, we were assigned to watch two videos about the US Supreme Court. Videos about the US Supreme Court are one of the most important aspects of our country's justice system. This video was uploaded 11 years ago. According to the official Supreme Court Website (https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/faq_general.aspx), 80 cases are argued throughout the year. It must be annoying to hear all those cases and see which one fits the court's material. The Supreme Court is also a part of the Judicial Branch, which interprets the laws. It's the highest court in the branches. It protects civil rights and civil liberty. 

According to the video, there are nine justices in the Supreme Court. Four votes out of nine are required to take the case to the Supreme level. When the Supreme Court first started, the first chief was John Marshall. Marshall made the Supreme Court respected by the court.  In many cases, most of the Supreme Court's early age were Civil rights cases.  Examples were Dred Scott vs Sandford and Plessy vs Ferguson. The Supreme Court is also a part of the Judicial Branch. What is scary to think is that the Supreme Court has much more power than you think. Its crazy that they have the same power as congress.

while watching the video I have learned so much more about the Supreme Court than what I previously didn't know. it surprises me that anyone can appeal to the Supreme Court. it even showed me to appreciate the justice system more now because some of the smaller courts aren't fair compared to the Supreme Court.  At the end of the day, the Judge and jury decide for the future.

Finding information on what is going on in this world is important. Without resources, the world would not be safe, and people would be brainless.

Fox is among the most trustworthy places to find and receive information on all subjects. Fox News has kept me watching the whole night of November 3rd to keep me up and to see accurate details of the election. Whenever I decide to go on the news I always rely on Fox because they talk about what is going on with the world in less than 30 minutes. Fox is also more interesting than CNN because it is more entertaining. 

                                                                         4. ESPN 

As someone majoring in sports media, ESPN is one of the most reliable sources in the USA. It covers all of your favorite sports and many people and broadcasters make it so entertaining. ESPN commentators also share their opinion on the games and it can even turn into a whole argument. The commentators also show people who want to be future broadcasters how to talk.

                                                                        3. PBS news

When it comes to news sources that are not involved in being biased it has to be PBS news. They're the best when it comes to learning information across the world. There really good about talking about policy and have great science and health information.

                                                                     2. Family and Friends 

If some of them have knowledge of certain subjects and I don't have access to the TV or the phone. It is also a good way to improve your communication skills. I know that some information may be from the news but at least they are taking notes on the information that is being presented in our world. Friends can also be impactful to news because they can have the same interests.

                                                                   1. Social Media

Everyone knew this was coming. Social Media has taken the world by storm in this generation. Everyone is active on Social Media 24/7. Most news sources have even started more on Social Media. People scroll on it for hours and gather information into their heads and they start to see what is going on in the world. Instagram and TikTok have always been the go-to for information. the length of the videos is what makes it the best because it doesn't make it boring because there can be something on the bottom to keep you entertained.
