Final blog post

My relationship with technology has greatly changed throughout my 19 years of living. Something new comes out every day, whether it's a new console, a new phone, or even a new app; everybody talks about it nonstop.  I remember my first interaction with Technology was with my parents' iPad. When I used the iPad, I discovered the famous app called YouTube. YouTube is the most popular app of all time. Through YouTube, I learned many things that my parents or my teachers taught me. It felt like I was miles ahead of learning at the time. Now, growing up, YouTube is still popular, but shorts are becoming the new thing. I remember talking about Instagram a couple of posts ago, saying that I was where everyone gets their news now, and it's becoming more real every day. With AI  Now, everybody gets information and uses it for schoolwork. It's creating a habit that we don't need school anymore. What sucks is that we dont even know what really is consider Ai written words.

People should be grateful for technology because it can lead to many great things. Unfortunately for technology, there always is a con. Social Media has made a negative impact on the current generation. People are always on their phones now, not even interacting with each other. Snapchat, a really popular app, is being used by many teens now. It can do the same thing as messages and WhatsApp.  People are sending each other pictures of themselves, not even showing their whole face, to start pointless streaks. What is insane is that college students still do streaks. Social Media can also lead to cyberbullying and holiness. There is always a community of people who just dislike people for no reason. It has led to a lot of mental health problems because everyone in our generation tries to act the same as everyone else. I have friends who received their first phone when they were in 3rd grade. It's like they're born with one. I always begged my parents for a cell phone when everyone received one, but. Maturing, I realized that I am grateful for receiving my phone later in life because I wouldn't have learned with a phone on me. Something that is interesting is that people's job and companies are all on social media 24-7. Most of the time it can be cheaper than the original price.

Technology in school has ruined education, but with the introduction of AI, it feels like students aren't even trying in school anymore. Technology has made it easier to cheat when it comes to cheating in schoolwork and tests. For example, on a computer, you can go on other websites and try to look up the answers while taking a test because there's no one looking at you anymore. It's not like the old days, where you would look at someone else's paper and copy their answers to see if they're right. AI has even helped students cheat on papers and on PowerPoint presentations because with technology, everyone just feels lazy and is relying on AI to do the work for them. Many students have come to the conclusion that they question why we even go to school anyway. Because of AI so they could just look up stuff from home because it's easier that way. And by the time we get older and our body starts being less reliable, we have a new generation of people becoming doctors. Now they're not gonna know what to do because they rely on AI all the time to take care of people, so it's gonna become way worse for us, and we're gonna have to rely on AI to take care of us nowadays. Professors have recently started using AI detectors to see which work is clearly AI or not. However, we still don't know if these AI detectors are accurate or not because no one can possibly predict how old students write unless you can identify the patterns between each student throughout papers to see which ones are AI or not. Still, there aren't that many clues to give out when it comes to papers for AI unless it's vocabulary words that we don't know. It's also quite interesting that teachers and professors use AI to teach students, since some textbooks are outdated. It's also interesting that people are willing to pay monthly to get AI to do work for them

As someone who wants to be a good parent, I will want my Kids to not be addicted to technology. Kids only need 1 hour of screen time a day.  We will be in a generation where we won't be in a social context if people are on the internet. Who knows what access they will have in the future?

the 5 eyes

The Five Eyes (FVEY) is an intelligence agency comprising 5 English-speaking countries, consisting of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. They originally assembled in 1945 after World War II. They signed the agreement between 1946 USA and Great Britain in 1946. In the follow-up years, Canada in 1948 and the Oceanic duo in 1956. All 5 countries can share information between all 5 countries and must share information with one another. Some of the key roles of this group are intelligence sharing, early warning. This shows that it can see what terrorists are doing and share it to prevent an attack. Disturbed terrorists, they can prevent Ideologies. They also perform post-attack investigations, gaining information to find out who is behind terrorist activities. FVEY has been credited with preventing numerous terrorist plots involving transportation systems, public buildings and sensitive locations.

For most of FVEY’s existence, it has been confidential that the former prime minister of Australia didn’t even know about it. Some documents were declassified in 2010, which meant FVEY was exposed, and with Edward Snowden leaking additional information in 2013, its existence was confirmed. Recently, Canada had to temporarily stop sharing information. We don’t want to know who is sharing with whom, so it was obvious in the metadata to see what country was sharing information, which is a bad way of stalking terrorists. It’s great that we share information because it can prevent terrorist attacks and it has in the past, as mentioned above. One of the most interesting things is that if it’s a true emergency, they can expand from 5 eyes to 9 eyes to 14 if necessary. The 14 eyes are in Europe.

Something interesting I learned is that one country has access to look at other servers via the law in the country that they are spying on. For example, it’s illegal for Great Britain to be looking at other people’s servers in the United Kingdom. What the country can do is they can call the USA to look into their servers to see if there is any trouble in the country. They can spy on the browser. Surveillance can help catch criminals and prevent terrorist activities, but as we learned in class, surveillance is not always benevolent, and surveillance on regular citizens is a sensitive topic. While the agencies may be looking for terrorists, they are also potentially violating First Amendment rights to free political speech and are considered government overreach. We cannot know exactly who or what FVEY or any intelligence agency is looking into. Casting broad surveillance over entire populations can cause many issues and put people at risk, yet this is what they do. We may ask if our privacy is at risk from these agencies, but we also have to ask if even more would be at risk without them. So, some things we can do to protect ourselves as individuals are to hide our IP addresses, secure our passwords and browsers, and use encryption. This is good advice for anyone living in the modern era

AntiWar

Anti-War

It seems like we are always hearing about anti-war protests. People are protesting the war in Gaza and the war in Ukraine, so we are still able to protest as citizens, at least for now. If we think about the anti-war movement, we think about the Vietnam War protests in 1965 through the late 70s. We think about protests taking place on college campuses. We do hear about protests about wars in the news, but we never talk about the hot spot of the war itself.  We know what these protesters are complaining about, usually it is human rights violations taking place in the war, the deaths, and the violence against people, animals and land. We can read about what started a war, but it is usually in vague terms with buzzwords and rage bait thrown about to get the reader upset. And the readers get upset, but what can they do about it? And what are they upset about? The war or the cause of the war?

If we wonder why we went to war in the Middle East in the 2000s, we may hear about weapons of mass destruction, but as we know now, there were no weapons like that. Were we lied to? Why were we lied to? What was the real cause? We never hear about it. The news doesn’t explain why these wars happen, and the government doesn’t want citizens to go up against it, so we know there are wars, and we know there are protests, and that is about all we know, except that the media does not seem to be doing its job in explaining. Why? This is all because of the First Amendment. People have the right to protest against anything like the government and businesses. Sometimes we protest in person, sometimes we protest with our wallet. This amendment gives us the right to free speech with very few exceptions, but there are exceptions and the one that is in play here is incitement. In criminal law, incitement is the encouragement of another person to commit a crime. Depending on the jurisdiction, some or all types of incitement may be illegal. Where illegal, it is known as an inchoate offense, where harm is intended but may or may not have actually occurred.

So how is writing about the war or expressing anti-war sentiment encouraging someone to commit a crime? The government believes that if people know the details of wars, they may resist the government’s actions. This resistance could be violent and that could be a crime. If a news organization is accused of incitement, they would lose their credentials and reporters could be imprisoned. While looking at the website Anti-War, it’s confusing to understand what each article means.  It’s almost like it's a jumble on purpose for deniability. They want to make you see the facts and make sure they don't get caught for incitement. It leaves you with questions on what is possibly going on with this war. In another website, The American Conservative, they talk about wars in small details because the organization does not want to get in trouble and they can avoid that by only looking at small details of larger wars. The news organization does not need to be violent; the people’s violent response is caused by the news organization according to the law.

age of AI

In my junior year of high school, I was hanging out with some of my friends. I was watching their computer, and I saw a website where they were asking questions to a computer. This app was called Chat GPT. Everyone was using it to help with their homework. I thought AI was just in the movie because I saw Iron Man and thought Jarvis would become a real-life AI. I wonder how AI is going to impact the future. After watching a Video on AI robots, I am nervous.

The video shows people talking about robots who shop for people in stores. The robot has already made a prediction on what the humans want to buy and what's on their shopping list. It is insane how AI is literally taking over the world in every way. Ai can even make pictures of people and vidoes on what ever you ask it to do. It can even shut down other companies and websites with the power of AI and what information it can generate in like 5 seconds. The only thing that concerns me about AI is the possibility of taking over all of us. When we are scrolling on TikTok, it reads our minds and gives us recommendations. Its scary that it can read many minds.

bluetooth

Bluetooth Basics - SparkFun Learn

On Thursday in class, we presented our thoughts on the different technologies that each student presented during class. I presented about 3D printing. Many students chose interesting topics. Students would pick between CDS printing and even AI images. What stood out to me the most was Bluetooth. As someone who uses Bluetooth every single day of my life. I have been using Bluetooth since I started using headphones when I was young and throughout life, new inventions such as Alexa, Google Play, using Bluetooth in the car, and even connecting a controller to a computer. Everything that Bluetooth does makes it a special part of technology.

During the presentation, I learned something about Bluetooth that I never even knew. Bluetooth can hear everything you say and recommend ads on what you're thinking about. Bluetooth is used in medical devices such as dental objects. The best part about Bluetooth is that you don't even need to be connected to the internet when using Bluetooth. The only part about Bluetooth is that sometimes it doesn't work when you aren't close to it. Another thing is that it feels like you're data is being shared while you connect your phone to a device.

privacy

Throughout my 18 years of living, the internet has grown into one of the most dangerous communications methods ever. Technology is different from what it was 18 years ago. Not only can our privacy be at risk when we use it, but the information we share with others, knowing that we are sharing or not knowing (tracking cookies, etc.) can put us at risk. Tracking cookies can also track your data when visiting websites. They say they are using them to target advertising, but this is not all they are doing.

With the introduction of AI, people are now using it to answer all of their questions, right or wrong. It can also be used to create deep fakes which can mislead people. The scary thing about the internet is that anyone can see anything and anyone can post anything. This happened in one of the TED talks we watched. The speaker was being attacked on the internet by her ex-boyfriend who posted inappropriate pictures of her. When she tried to get them taken down, it seemed that the government was protecting his privacy rights more than hers. It took years for her to get the images removed but it damaged her reputation. She seemed to have no right to her privacy.

In a TED talk by Catherine Crump, we also learned that police officers can track people's data in various ways. The traffic camera that photographs cars at the light records everything and takes pictures of your car and plate number whether you broke the law or not. It's crazy that these privacy violations aren't a violation of the constitution because our cars are a private location like our homes and if we are not doing anything wrong, why are they tracking us? The Constitution does not directly protect our privacy, so what can we do about it?

The government should not be stalking all 335 million people. A lot of them might not be adults. It can be creepy to stalk children who don't know what is going on, yet the government is doing just that. The government should enact a law or amendment to increase privacy for law-abiding citizens. We haven't had an amendment since 1992, maybe it is time for one that protects us. There is no reason to be looking at someone who is searching for a recipe to make shrimp tacos online. There is no good reason to track a citizen’s movements. They say this lack of privacy is to keep us safe, but having our every move followed does not feel safe to me.

3d printing

Could you imagine that you can print toys at your own home, build a car, or print a printer out of a printer? All of this is possible because of these printers, known as 3d printers. You can literally use your imagination to print whatever going on in life. It's hard to believe it only been around the 1980s but only entered the mainstream in 2008.  nowadays, organs can even save lives.  Let's take a look at how 3D printing has come a long way since its debut. When I was in 7th grade, I was in class when I saw people printing statues and interesting objects for projects and for themselves. I have only used a 3d printer once in my life, and it has been a good experience.

3d printing is when an object starts with nothing and adds more materials. The 3D printing began in the 1980s by Japanese inventor Hideo Kodama. A student in 1987 named Carl Deckhard licensed SLS, another step in forming 3d printing. SLS stands for selective laser sintering.  It is used for powering a laser to center powder material into an object. In 1988, the first 3d printer was sold.  In 1997, after ten years, Carl deck-chard filed his Patton for the SL AeroMate to produce its first 3d printed Laser adaptive manufacture LAM, which was an upgrade to the SLS. In 1999, Wake Forest grew a 3d printed organ for transplant. In 2005, Dr. Adrian Bower invented a RepRAP replicating rapid prototype, which was a project that was a low-cost 3d printer that could print most of their components. In 2008, Darwin became the first 3d printer to be sold commercially. In 2009 maker bot introduced the build-your-own 3d printer the price dropped to 1,000 dollars. In 20011, the University of South Hampton designed and printed the first aircraft. In 2015, Cellink from Sweden introduced the first bio-ink derived from seaweed, which can be used for printing tissue cartilage. By 2019 there are 170 3d printer manufacturers.

3d printing will be impactful for generations to come. 3d printing could impact auto production due to the ability to make their own car in one place.  Another thing that has been impacted is the medical world. They started printing organs and prosthetics for amputees. These robotic companies will combine with 3d printing to build a robotic arm that is more accurate.  People can produce artwork. So much for painting what happened in the 1500s.  You can even print a house for less than 5,000 dollars. The best part is that it is made out of recyclable materials. Unfortunately, for 3d printing, you can also 3d weapons which could lead to stuff that we would not like to see. Piracy can also be used to make electronics with other property of other companies. It might also create a natural structure that would help support the environment.

It's amazing how far the 3d printing technology has come within the past 40 years. It will be exciting what else we can see with this technology in the future. We can use it to help the world.
